The presentation, entitled ‘Infrastructure – Maintaining the Present and Securing the Future’, was delivered at the October session of the IoD monthly lunch series sponsored by Heritage Insurance.
Infrastructure has been this year’s theme for this series and His Excellency outlined his vision of what infrastructure is and what it can provide for the island.
His Excellency explained that infrastructure functions as both strategy and stimulant; that it is necessary to have a thorough, joined-up strategic plan to ensure future prosperity.
“Infrastructure is a strategic enabler that supports our future wealth,” His Excellency said.
The Lieutenant-Governor said there was not just a need for quality infrastructure in the conventional sense and, while hard infrastructure such as roads and ports were necessary there was also the need for soft infrastructure such as education, leadership and health.
“The provision of both requires a partnership between the public and private sectors in order to be fully effective.
“State and enterprise are condemned to work together when it comes to infrastructure projects,” The Lieutenant-Governor said.
The next Heritage Insurance IoD lunch will be held on Friday, 14 November and will feature Guernsey Harbours harbour director Sarah McGreevy as guest speaker.
