Mark presented at an event hosted by Guernsey Finance in conjunction with the Asset Management Association of China (AMAC) to showcase the island’s credentials as a leading international funds centre for asset management groups. At the event in Beijing, he helped highlight the pivotal role Guernsey, as a major financial services jurisdiction, could play in the distribution of funds to and from China.
The asset management industry in China is growing rapidly and the delegation saw a real willingness to learn from more established international fund centres like Guernsey. During the trip, Mark, who has more than 25 years’ experience working in the Chinese investment market, discovered a genuine interest from the Chinese industry about the jurisdiction’s fund structures and how they might be used for both inbound and outbound investment projects, particularly in relation to more esoteric asset classes such as real estate and private equity and where a capital market listing might be required.
Earlier in the week, at the UK-China SME forum in Shanghai supported by Guernsey Finance, the City of London, the China Britain Business Council and the UK Trade and Industry, Mark also participated on a panel session about how financial institutions can assist Chinese SMEs in their growth and internationalisation.
