The Frostbite race series was created by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club (RCIYC) and is a favourite with local sailors, with around 15 boats participating in each of the six races held during January to March. The Heritage Group is pleased to support the Frostbite series, which we know is appreciated by the RCIYC year after year.
The races start along an extended line off Castle Cornet and follow a course around local buoys and marks set according to the wind and tide on the day. There are separate courses for the 'racer' and 'cruiser' sailing classes, into which a boat is grouped at the beginning of the season. The courses are intended to test the seamanship and ability of Skippers and their crew, with upwind and downwind legs meaning that whenever possible boats are encouraged to use their full set of sails, including spinnakers. Each event usually takes around two hours to complete.
Students were given the opportunity to follow the race fleet in a RIB on race day, taking photographs which will be used by the Heritage Group. We would like to thank Cian Tully, who took some fantastic photographs of this year's Frosbite Series.
