Heritage Frostbite sailing series opens this weekend

The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club is gearing up for one of the most popular events in its annual racing calendar, with the first race of the 2015 Heritage Frostbite series set to commence this weekend.

These races consistently attract some of the biggest fleets in the Channel Islands, and make for a real spectacle in the Little Russel off St Peter Port over the coming weeks.

This weekend actually starts with race two as the season’s opener last Saturday did not take place due to the weather, and the remaining races are a fortnight apart up to the end of March.  Following each race there will be a reception in the Royal Channel Island Yacht Club, and the final prize follows the final event on the 28 March at the Royal Channel Island Yacht Club.

Gordon Wilson, director of Heritage, as well as a leading skipper, said it promises to be exciting. ‘With six more races scheduled and a maximum discard of two races, the skippers who demonstrate consistently good results will be the winners. It will be an enjoyable next three months.’

Entry forms are available from the Royal Channel Island Yacht Club or the Guernsey Yacht Club, and the race dates are as follows:

17 January

31 January

14 February

28 February

14 March

28 March
