Rachel joined Heritage in 2015 as the Legal Manager of the Malta office.
Prior to joining Heritage, Rachel worked for one of Malta’s leading law firms for five years. During her time there, she was actively involved in providing financial services and investment services advice to both local and overseas entities, setting up both retail and professional investment funds and leading their licensing process, as well as assisting a number of foreign UCITS funds passporting their services to Malta and the re-domiciliation of funds to Malta.
She was also principally involved in the conversion of large Maltese-domiciled non-retail funds to UCITS status, and had been focusing on advising and assisting funds and service providers alike on issues widely related to the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (the “AIFMD”) since its drafting.
Rachel graduated as Doctor of laws at the University of Malta in November 2009 after submitting her thesis on the Liability of the Trustee. Rachel continued concentrating on her interests in investment funds and financial services in her post-graduate studies at King’s College London. In partial fulfilment of the LL.M. in International Financial Law degree, she submitted a thesis on the AIFMD, carrying out an analysis on the effects of this Directive on European centres of excellence in the financial services industry under the supervision of Professor Lodewijk Van Setten.
