Martin has been managing and investing in a range of insurance and financial services companies since 1985 when he was appointed as Managing Director of Polygon Insurance Company Limited, which was then an offshore insurance buying consortium owned by a group of European airlines (KLM, SwissAir, SAS). He spearheaded the development and diversification of Polygon into captive insurance management (Prism Insurance Limited) , insurance brokerage (Pentagon Insurance Limited), and trust administration (Heritage Trust Limited) while continuing to look after the aviation captive portfolio which expanded to include Austrian Airlines, Tyrolean Airways, Lauda, Icelandair, Spanair and Finnair.
In 2001, Martin spearheaded the management buyout of the fee-earning companies from Polygon Insurance, which formed the basis for a new company, Heritage Group Limited. Polygon Insurance Company continued trading and remained a key client of Heritage.
As CEO of the Heritage Group, Martin drove its rapid expansion from 2001 to 2008 into corporate trust work and fund administration in Guernsey, and diversifying into other offshore jurisdictions including a Jersey branch offering insurance brokerage, captive insurance and pensions administration, and a Malta branch offering captive management. In 2008, Martin moved from CEO to Non Executive Chairman of Heritage Group and its subsidiaries, including Heritage Insurance Management Limited and Heritage International Fund Managers Limited, in order to focus on developing opportunities at Polygon.
Martin is interested in sailing, game shooting and skiing.
